Twelve outstanding students pursuing a degree or career in the natural gas industry are recipients of this year's DCP Midstream Career and Technical Scholarship. They will each receive $1,500 for their full-time studies at an accredited two-year college or technical institution of their choice.
"The Career and Technical Scholarship Program is an important element in DCP's ability to encourage innovation and develop a strong future workforce in our industry," said Roz Elliott, vice president of Public Affairs. "This is a national scholarship program and we are pleased with the caliber of this year's recipients and honored that we can play a supporting role in their education."
The 2012 recipients in the DCP Midstream Career and Technical Scholarship Program are:
Brian Cochrane, studying compression at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Okla. Brian recently graduated from Upper Cape Cod Tech.
Trenton Edney, studying process technology at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. Trenton graduated from West Rusk High School.
Mark Kelley, studying electrical and instrumentation at the Francis Tuttle Vocational Technical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Mark graduated from Piedmont High School.
Raul Landaverde, studying petroleum technology at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Raul graduated from San Augustine High School.
Christopher Mann, studying diesel power at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. Christopher graduated from Hugoton High School.
Jarrod Martin, studying industrial maintenance at Texas State Technical College in Marshall, Texas. Jarrod graduated from Martin-Hall Academy.
Cody McGuire, studying welding at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Cody graduated from Beckville High School.
Nikolas Mihelic, studying diesel power at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. Nikolas graduated from Goodwell High School.
Orlando Monsalve, studying petroleum technology at Houston Community College System in Houston, Texas. Orlando graduated from Colegio Rafael Faria.
Aaron Scrogum, studying compression at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Okla. Aaron graduated from Carney High School.
Kyung-Ah Woo, studying electrical and instrumentation at Houston Community College System in Houston, Texas. She went to High School in South Korea.
Golden Williams, studying process technology at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. Golden went to High School in Enugu, Africa.
All scholarship winners must be pursuing an associate degree or career-technical certification related to the natural gas industry such as, but not limited to: machine tool technology; diesel power and heavy equipment technology; plant operations; gas technology; industrial electricity; compression; electrical and instrumentation; industrial maintenance; mechanic; and welding.
Scholarships are renewable for one additional year and are awarded on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and future aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.
