CUPERTINO, Calif., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Brenner Group, Inc. has been retained by Western Technology Investment as agent for the sale of the patent portfolio of MEMS company LV Sensors. The patent portfolio will be sold in an auction format and is scheduled to begin June 11, 2012.
The Company's technology includes a wide range of innovations, including design and manufacturing aspects of micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors and components; semiconductor and sensor packaging and partitioning; tire pressure monitoring system design and integration with valves; and energy harvesting technology.
LV Sensors' MEMS manufacturing process flow can yield multiple sensors that can be manufactured simultaneously, such as a pressure sensor, 3-axis accelerometer, vacuum sensors, and resonators. The same process can also generate flow sensors, low and high pressure barometers, and gyroscopes. Slight modifications may allow the manufacture of magnetometer, spectrometer, acoustic transponders, microphones, and CO2 sensors. LV Sensors' technology also allowed three-dimensional MEMS/IC chip integration.
The Brenner Group is organizing the auction, scheduled to begin June 11, 2012. Based on the positive response both from non-operating entities as well as from operating companies, the auction format is most suited to allow all interested parties to get a fair chance to acquire the technology.
Western Technology Investment gained control of the technology in 2009 after LV Sensors defaulted on its venture debt during the recession and assigned the patents to its subsidiary Sensors Licensing, LLC. The increased interest in MEMS sensors for consumer devices such as smart phones and gaming devices as well as the increased market opportunity for automotive sensors in the US and overseas was driving the decision that the time had come to sell the patent portfolio.
