Podcast Series to Help Servicewomen and Veterans Returning Home from Deployment Will Launch on Monday, June 4th

Series Includes Army Women's Hall of Fame Inductees -- Army Women Who Served in Vietnam

WASHINGTON, June 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The U.S. Army Women's Foundation announced the June 4th launch of a podcast series to help servicewomen and veterans returning home from deployment with real advice from leaders and veterans. The podcasts will be available starting at 12:00 a.m. EDT for free viewing and download from http://podcast.awfdn.org. A schedule of podcasts is below.

  • Monday, June 4: Symposium Panel One, "Beyond the Battlefield: Coming Home"
  • Tuesday, June 5: Symposium Panel Two, "Beyond the Battlefield: Back to Work" and The State of Women Veterans Today by LTG Horoho
  • Wednesday, June 6: Hall of Fame Luncheon Part I and a Tribute Speech by MG Janet Cobb
  • Thursday, June 7: Hall of Fame Luncheon Part II and Inductee Remarks

During March, military leaders, government officials, academics, and corporate and non-profit leaders assembled in Washington, D.C. with one question: how do we use our collective knowledge and resources to help servicewomen successfully transition back into their homes, jobs, and communities? This question was the focus of Foundation's 4th Annual Army Women in Transition Symposium & Hall of Fame Luncheon.

The answers offered by these leaders are found in the podcasts and are based on their experiences, research, knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices. Starting June 4th, podcasts of the Symposium will be available for servicewomen and their supporting communities to watch. These podcasts are made possible through support by Booz Allen Hamilton and Stars and Stripes.

The podcasts include a keynote by LTG Patricia D. Horoho, Surgeon General and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Medical Command, on the state of women veterans today; and, the induction of Army women who served in Vietnam into the Army Women's Hall of Fame. The induction occurred just before the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam war and at the 4th Annual Army Women's Hall of Fame Luncheon. MG Janet Cobb, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4 (Operations), provided a breathtaking tribute speech to the Army women who served in Vietnam and the pivotal role these women played as nurses, translators, navigators, among other specializations.
