Scholarship recipient is pursuing an online PhD in Information Technology
The Department of Defense (DoD) has once again selected a PhD student of Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programsfor working adults, to receive its Information Assurance Scholarship. The DoD has created this full-ride scholarship to recruit and retain well-qualified personnel for work in the information assurance field, and to cultivate continuing capacity for information assurance workforce development at select institutions of higher learning throughout the United States. As of March 31, 2012, more than 37,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella. The learning and career outcomes of Capella's students and alumni can be found at www.capellaresults.org. Approximately 14 percent of Capella students are affiliated with the military.
The scholarship winner, who also received the scholarship last year, is pursuing an online PhD in Information Technology with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security at Capella, which reflects the competencies required by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to produce well-educated learners who can be responsible for the design, development, use and maintenance of critical infrastructure systems.
The recipient of the scholarship is a clinical informatics and corporate project manager with more than 20 years of experience in the health care field. She is planning to focus her doctoral dissertation at Capella on the transformation of health care through health IT governance and secure technology. In addition to the scholarship, the recipient will receive an annual stipend, and if all conditions are met, will also receive a full-time position with the DoD upon graduation.
Capella has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The DoD only makes its Information Assurance Scholarship available to students of schools that have this designation. In addition, the National Security Administration's Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Review Committee has validated that Capella's information security curriculum meets the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Standards.
