PHOENIX, July 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Banner Health, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the U.S., has been recognized for coaching excellence by the International Coach Federation (ICF). During a ceremony held June 28 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, Banner received the prestigious Prism Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership coaching and integrating it into the fabric of the organization with positive outcomes. ICF is the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession. Its core purpose is to advance the art, science and practice of professional coaching.
Banner Health implemented coaching in 2007 as part of leadership development. Currently, Banner has 13 internal coaches trained through accredited coach training programs, and 25 leaders who have completed a 28-week internal certification program, based on the Co-Active Coaching Model. These leaders have full-time positions within Banner and offer coaching in addition to their current role.

About 100 leaders, including physicians are engaged in one-on-one coaching sessions with an additional 300 receiving this service in the past four years. Others have participated in group based learning opportunities such as the "Coaches Corner" which provides a monthly tool for leaders in their everyday leadership and has become common practice within several Banner entities. In addition, Banner Health has reached more than 40-percent of its 3,500 leaders through the "Leaders as Coach" class, a four-hour introduction to coaching, teaching the levels of listening, powerful questions and introducing the coaching competencies.
