UT - Center for Lifelong Engineering Education Announces Water, Technology, and Policy Event

AUSTIN, Texas, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Texas at Austin announced the Water, Technology and Policy event, a one day program focused on water and its role in society. The course will be held on August 9 at the AT&T Conference Center. Featuring distinguished speakers from academia and private sectors, this event is open to professional engineers, policymakers, academics, planners, water managers and industrial representatives who are interested in the significance of water in today's ecosystem.

According to instructor, Dr. Michael Webber, "Water is the single most valuable resource in the world today, as it has no substitute. Learning the ins and outs of water in society will make you better prepared for the challenges that are waiting."

The event will include an introduction to quantitative concepts in water and the hydrological cycle (including sources and types of water, flows/fluxes, and basics of hydrogeology); differences among treatment methods and technologies; water infrastructure; and societal aspects such as culture, economics, war, and international affairs. The event will also cover brief snippets of water history, use real-world examples and look toward the future; emphasis will also be given to the role of water in Texas.

"This event will giveprofessional engineers, policymakers, academics, planners, water managers and industrial representatives a wide background on the different aspects of water that are important for the success of their companies and organizations," said Dr. Michael Webber, instructor. "Engineers will learn about policy, and policymakers will learn engineering, all in a way that is accessible, engaging and fun."

"The Center for Lifelong Engineering Education is thrilled to bring Dr. Michael Webber back for this Water, Technology and Policy event,"said Cath Polito, Executive Director. "Dr. Webber's enthusiasm is contagious, and his expert co-presenters Raj Bhattarai and Ashlynn Stillwell will inspire and enlighten you!"

Sponsorship for the event includes Johnson Controls and Mustang Engineering.
