BALTIMORE, July 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) on Monday (July 30) is celebrating 10 years of working with people in the field of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, and educating them about technology abuse and safety. During this period, the Safety Net Project at NNEDV has trained more than 60,000 victim advocates, police officers, prosecutors, judges, leading technology companies and policy makers from the world over on how technology can be misused to harm victims and how victim advocates and survivors can use technology safely and effectively.

Sue Else, President, NNEDV

Cindy Southworth, Founder of the Safety Net Technology Project, Vice President of Development & Innovation, NNEDV

Jack McArtney, Director, Corporate and Community Responsibility, Verizon

Survivors of technological stalking

WHEN:

Reception: 5:30-8:00 p.m.

Remarks: 6:30-7:00 p.m.

Innovative, interactive technology demonstrations and Safety Net's work will be available throughout the evening.

WHERE:

Gaylord National Hotel, National Harbor, Md. Baltimore Ballroom

WHY:

Technology has evolved dramatically in the past 10 years, in many ways to improve everyday life. However, perpetrators of abuse frequently and insidiously use technology to stalk, harass and otherwise abuse their victims.

The Safety Net Project at NNEDV has been helping victim advocates stay a step ahead of offenders and learn how technology can be one of many methods used to perpetrate abuse. The project has also worked with major technology companies to help create products and services that are as safe as possible for survivors.

About NNEDV:

NNEDV, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a leading voice for domestic and sexual violence victims and their allies. Its members include the 56 statewide and territorial coalitions against domestic violence. It works closely with them to understand the needs of domestic violence victims and advocacy programs. NNEDV has been a premiere national organization advancing the movement against domestic violence for more than 15 years, after leading efforts among domestic violence victim advocates and survivors in urging Congress to pass the landmark Violence Against Women Act of 1994.
