Silver Oak Family Announces Acquisition of Sausal Family Vineyard and Winery

OAKVILLE, Calif., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Duncan Family, owners of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars, are pleased to announce the acquisition of Sausal Vineyard and Winery, one of the Alexander Valley's oldest and most admired boutique wineries and vineyard sites.

Sausal Vineyards was acquired by the Demostene family in 1956. They planted additional vineyards and built the winery in 1973, where they crushed their first grapes. Proud of their Italian origins, the vineyard is planted primarily to Zinfandel, as well as other varietals. There are Zinfandel blocks boasting vines that are up to 130 years old.

The Demostene family said they are delighted to sell their property to Silver Oak, and they are confident the Duncan family will be good stewards of the land.

David R. Duncan, President and CEO of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars is excited by the vineyard acquisition as it will give him and his winemaking team a new vineyard site with unique viticultural conditions. "The Sausal Vineyard site presents us with an excellent opportunity to grow Cabernet Sauvignon with a variety of soils and conditions not previously available to us in the production of our Alexander Valley Cabernet," Duncan said. "We are excited to see what other opportunities it will afford us in the future."

Silver Oak grows fruit in various distinct geographies in both the Alexander Valley and the Napa Valley.

Sally Nicholson of International Wine Associates, Healdsburg, California, initiated this transaction and represented the Demostene family. The terms of the sale are not released.

About Silver Oak

Silver Oak Cellars was co-founded in 1972 by Raymond Duncan and Justin Meyer and dedicated exclusively to producing Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged and drinkable upon release. The winery makes two wines at two separate facilities: Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at its winery in Oakville, California and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the winery in Geyserville, California. Today, Silver Oak Cellars is run by founder Raymond Duncan's two sons, David and Tim Duncan, who adhere to the principle of continuous improvement and the high standards of quality that Justin and Raymond established so many years ago.
