Bumbo Baby Seat Injury Lawyers Praise Recall of Dangerous Product

DALLAS, Aug. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Five years after filing their first lawsuit over children's injuries caused by the Bumbo Baby Sitter seat, personal injury and product safety lawyers at Rose Walker LLP and Pulaski & Middleman LLC, are applauding the recent recall of the dangerous and defective Bumbo Baby Sitter announced by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).

Earlier this week, the CPSC announced the recall of more than 4 million Bumbo molded foam rubber seats sold at Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Target, Wal-Mart and other major retailers. The national recall follows hundreds of reported incidents in which babies have been injured after falling out of the chair manufactured by South Africa-based Bumbo International.

Initial reports of a few dozen injuries and safety concerns prompted an earlier CPSC recall in 2007, although Bumbo was allowed to continue selling the product with new warning labels. In hundreds of cases, including dozens that occurred after the new warning labels were added, babies have suffered injuries, including serious head injuries or broken bones after tumbling from the chairs.

Lawyers from Rose•Walker and Houston-based Pulaski & Middleman LLC have represented the families of 23 injured children in lawsuits against Bumbo International. The lawsuits also name as defendants retail giants Toys R Us and Target for disregarding the product's documented safety concerns and for inadequately addressing earlier safety concerns raised by the CPSC.

Rose•Walker attorneys have sought repeatedly to persuade the manufacturer to make basic and inexpensive safety modifications. Since 2008, Rose Walker and Pulaski & Middleman lawyers have been urging Bumbo to add a seat belt to the Bumbo Baby Sitter. As a result of the latest recall, Bumbo has finally agreed to add a basic seat belt restraint that is designed to reduce the likelihood of injuries.

"This CPSC recall comes not one day too soon," says Rose Walker attorney Liz Cunningham. "If they had only put a seat belt on this product when we first suggested it in 2008, countless injuries could have been avoided."

Rose Walker LLP is a premier trial law firm, focusing on complex civil litigation. The firm represents businesses and individuals, and its many major courtroom victories have helped Rose•Walker earn a national reputation for excellence.
