REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/27/12 -- Coraid® Inc., a leading developer of Ethernet-based storage solutions with more than 1,500 customers worldwide, announced it will be demonstrating its new EtherCloud™ platform at VMworld, taking place August 26-30, 2012, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. VMworld is the largest virtualization and cloud computing conference for IT professionals.
Demonstrations held at Coraid booth number 1511 will include:
- Software-defined networking (SDN): Joint integration with OpenFlow and SDN platforms including Arista, Big Switch Networks and Nicira Open vSwitch.
- Hadoop-as-a-service: Full stack integration of software-defined storage (SDS), including one-click deployment of enterprise-class infrastructure for data analytics.
Coraid unveiled its EtherCloud platform for software-defined storage on August 22, 2012. This offering is the culmination of more than three years of engineering work, including the company's acquisition of cloud automation vendor Yunteq in November 2011. EtherCloud enables one-click provisioning and automation of enterprise-class SAN and NAS storage, as well as flexible REST APIs for integration into the network, server, virtualization and application layers.
On the heels of the EtherCloud announcement, Coraid also announced its programmable EtherFlash Cache that uses solid-state drives (SSDs) to boost read performance in server virtualization, database and e-mail applications. EtherFlash Cache allows cloud administrators to dynamically apply policies and priorities to applications as resources and SLAs change.
"As hardware commoditizes in the compute, networking and storage layers, innovation is rapidly moving to the software-defined control plane. Enterprise and cloud data centers alike need to move towards a scale-out, automated architecture that runs on Ethernet," said Charlie Giancarlo, Coraid advisory board member, managing director at Silver Lake, and former executive vice president and chief development officer of Cisco Systems. "Web-scale companies like Google and Amazon have set the bar for one-click self-service, and every provider of IT services will have to respond. Coraid's EtherCloud platform, coupled with its elastic Ethernet-based storage architecture, puts it in a credible leadership position for software-defined storage."
EtherCloud will be available in Q3 2012 -- please visit www.coraid.com/ethercloud for details.
