COLUMBIA, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 08/29/12 -- AirPatrol Corporation, a developer of advanced mobile device security systems, today named Cleve Adams as its chief executive officer. Adams is a seasoned technology executive with more than 25 years of experience leading and growing organizations in the enterprise software, network, security and mobile markets. He was a member of the executive team that founded security software giant Websense (WBSN) and took it through its initial public offering in 2000. Subsequently he held chief executive roles for security firms Puresight Technology, and High Tower Software.
Founded in 2006, AirPatrol develops location-based security systems that identify mobile devices such as smartphones and laptops operating on wireless or cellular networks, and limit the behavior of those devices based on their security credentials or organizational policies. Initially developed for government, military and related contractor installations, AirPatrol's latest generation of products have recently found a growing attraction among private sector organizations.
"Enterprises are waking up to the fact that today's smartphones aren't just phones -- they're computers, video cameras, tape recorders, high speed networking devices and more all rolled into a pocket-sized package," Adams said. "When you've got potentially thousands of these devices moving in and out of your organization every day, you have a substantial security threat that needs to be managed just like all the other technology in the facility."
Adams' first task at AirPatrol will be to help the company expand its efforts in the enterprise arena, a market with which he is especially familiar. At Websense, he helmed the company's global sales channel, transforming it from a local firewall reseller into a $1 billion international security powerhouse that counted 90% of the world's largest firms as customers. As CEO of PureSight, he oversaw the company's global expansion and engineered its acquisition by an international mobile telecommunications services provider. Adams has also overseen the commercialization and growth of a number of other software and technology firms throughout the past decade.
"Speaking as one who has seen more than a few technologies, I can say that AirPatrol is one of the most exciting technologies I've come across for some time," Adams said. "I'm looking forward to helping the company grow and become a major player in the mobile and network security industries in the coming years."
"AirPatrol is thrilled to have Cleve join the team and lead the company," explained AirPatrol Chairman, Bradley Rotter. "Cleve has extensive experience as a security CEO and an impressive scorecard of past leadership roles. Having served as Interim CEO, I am proud to give Cleve the driver's seat."
