Landshark Lager And Ocean Conservancy Unite For International Coastal Cleanup Day

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Landshark Lager is partnering with Ocean Conservancy in support of the organization's International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 15. The annual effort, now in its 27th year, encourages people to reduce their own trash impact and volunteer to clean up our coastlines, rivers and lakefronts. This year, more than 500,000 volunteers are expected to participate in local clean-up efforts around the world.

International Coastal Cleanup Day also will mark the culmination of Landshark's Fin-Tastic Voyage. From June through September, Landshark and Ocean Conservancy invited volunteers to help keep the coast trash free through beach cleanup events. The Fin-Tastic Voyage also included stand up paddleboarding andconcerts. An International Coastal Cleanup Day event in Pensacola will be the finale to the program that hosted events in Jersey Shore, Ocean City, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, West Palm Beach, Miami/Key West and St. Petersburg/Tampa. More than 750 volunteers turned out to support Landshark's local clean-up efforts.

"Our beaches provide the perfect escape, so it's important we leave our favorite coastal spots better than how we found them," said Michael Lourie, brand manager, Landshark Lager. "Ocean Conservancy and Landshark make a great team because we like to have a good time on the water and also recognize the positive effect we can have when we each do our part for our oceans."

"Cleanups - like the ones during the International Coastal Cleanup and the Fin-Tastic Voyage - help remind people that taking care of our beaches and waterways starts with personal responsibility, as each bit of trash has an impact," said Betty Hallman, director of corporate relations, Ocean Conservancy. "Landshark makes the effort fun, showing coastal communities that playing in the surf and caring for the coast go hand-in-hand."

Paddleboarding champion and Landshark ambassador Danny Ching also has joined the cleanup effort. An all-around waterman and multi-sport athlete, Ching spends many hours a day in the ocean and values the efforts of Landshark to keep beaches clean.

"As I travel across the country for races, I love seeing how each community takes a lot of pride in their beachfront," said Ching. "That's why I'm not surprised at the great turnouts that Ocean Conservancy and Landshark get when they organize a clean-up. Then, adding some stand up paddleboarding to the day gets people on the water and reminds us why we should care for our amazing beaches."

Throughout the summer, Landshark sponsored stand up paddleboarding races and events offering both professional and recreational paddleboarders a chance to participate in this fast-growing sport.
