Saturday Town Hall Outside Cleveland to Feature Candidates in Hotly Contested 16th District

BRIDGEPORT, Conn., Sept. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a Town Hall event tomorrow (Sept. 15) in Strongsville, Ohio, the Republican and Democratic candidates for Congress from the pivotal 16th District will address the huge fiscal challenges facing our elected leaders. Rep. Jim Renacci (R) and Rep. Betty Sutton (D) will appear as part of the "$10 Million a Minute" national bus tour sponsored by former US Comptroller General David Walker and his organization, the Comeback America Initiative. Scott Rupert, an Independent who is running for the U.S. Senate, will also speak.

The audience has been chosen to be demographically and politically representative of Ohio as a whole-a bellwether state that is critical to the outcome of the presidential election. Audience members, who will respond to various solutions offered by the presenters through real-time electronic polling, will be able to give the candidates guidance on such hot button issues as taxes, spending cuts, social programs and other possible fiscal reforms.

Mr. Walker's tour, which visits 23 cities in 17 swing states, is a first of its kind event to engage Americans about our nation's deteriorating financial condition - and thereby encourage voters to pressure candidates this fall to discuss serious solutions. Along with Mr. Walker, the Strongsville audience will hear from Dr. Isabel Sawhill, a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Underscoring the severity of our fiscal challenge, Mr. Walker is presenting CAI's "U.S. Financial Burden Barometer" which is a far more accurate measure of our financial situation than the well-known National Debt Clock, since it includes both total liabilities and unfunded promises (such as Social Security and Medicare). The Burden Barometer is presently at $70 Trillion and increasing by $10 million a minute. http://www.10millionaminute.org
