As patron of the 3rd international One World Award (OWA), IFOAM honors organic pioneer Ana Primavesi for her decisive role in promoting organic agriculture in Brazil and Latin America. The scientist and activist authored important text books and still lobbies actively for organic cultivation today at the age of 92. "Without Ana Primavesi, the organic world would be deprived of several insights into the relationship between a healthy soil and a humane agriculture," says Markus Arbenz, Managing Director of IFOAM. The OWA jury recognized his visionary commitment and his impressive achievements in promoting organic agriculture and the sustainable, rural development of the municipality of Dumingag and its associated 44 villages. Inspiring people to take initiative and follow such good examples was the motivation for Joseph Wilhelm, founder and Managing Director of Rapunzel Naturkost, to create the One World Award in 2008. "Even if many fellow human beings, big corporations and governments still try to ignore it: we definitely and ultimately sit in one and the same boat.
