GAITHERSBURG, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 09/17/12 -- Digital Infuzion, Inc. announced today that Dr. Stephan Bour has joined Digital Infuzion as Executive Director, Clinical Informatics. Dr. Bour will be responsible for articulating and implementing the company's strategy to apply "big data" concepts to clinical and primary care data. Dr. Bour will focus on assembling multi-faceted data sets that support both immediate and long-term decision-making in support of public health.
Dr. Bour brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our clinical informatics practice. He obtained his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine at McGill University in 1993 with a focus on infectious diseases and specifically HIV-1. Dr. Bour then joined the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, Maryland as a post-doctoral fellow performing basic research focusing on the molecular interactions between HIV-1 and its cellular host. During the following 10 years as a Staff Scientist in the NIAID Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology, Dr. Bour became one of the few internationally-recognized experts in the study of the HIV-1 Vpu protein. He has published 39 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
In 2001, Stephan entered the then nascent field of bioinformatics. Shortly thereafter, he became the Head of the first NIAID Core Facility dedicated to delivering bioinformatics solutions in support of a research program. In 2004, he created and ran until 2008 the NIAID Bioinformatics and Scientific IT Program. His work built the foundation of bioinformatics research and support at the NIAID and an organization which continues to grow to this day.
In 2008, Dr. Bour became the Chief Information Officer of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and Director of the NHLBI Center for Biomedical Informatics where he applied his skill set as a scientist and IT professional to advance the use of technology in scientific research and management endeavors.
