New York Sports Clubs Amps Up Election Season with "Fit for Office" Workout

NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --If you're a good candidate for a new muscle-toning regimen, the New York Sports Club's (NYSC) latest workout could be the perfect "party" for you. With the 2012 Presidential Election race heating up, the NYSC is launching a new, bi-partisan "Fit for Office" workout challenging New Yorkers who want to cast their vote on fitness.

The workout consists of a wide array of high intensity cardio, strength and conditioning exercises, with a politically-themed name assigned to each of the activities. Whether attendees are getting a set of "Paul Ryan Abs" or "Michelle Obama Arms," or taking a swing at the candidates at the "Voter TKO" station, the circuit-style workout crosses party lines for a fitness experience that both parties can agree on. Other station names include "Balancing the Budget" (balancing yourself on a wobble board), "Swing States" (kettlebell swings) and "Get on Your Soapbox" (box jumps), among others.

"With all of the excitement surrounding the 2012 Presidential Election, we wanted to give New Yorkers a chance to break a sweat and show some muscle for their party of choice," said Melissa Morin, Senior Director of Group Exercise Programming for the Sports Clubs. "Whether you're up against yourself or someone else, an election-just like an awesome workout- is competitive by design. With these parallels in mind, Sports Clubs saw the presidential rundown as an opportunity to provide a fun and fresh take on fitness to our members. "

In addition to the "Fit for Office" workout, select Sports Clubs in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. will be continuing the presidential-themed fitness campaign by hosting week-long "Run Up to the Election" events. Gym goers will be encouraged to cast their vote for president by clocking miles on either a red or blue-wrapped treadmill. The candidate whose treadmill logs the highest mileage will be declared the most "Fit for Office."

"Fit for Office" is launching the week of September 24 at select New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia Sports Clubs. The class will be offered free of charge to both members and nonmembers into October.
