NEW HOPE, PA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/25/12 -- MeetMe, Inc. (NYSE MKT: MEET), the public market leader for social discovery, has joined forces with OurTime.org, to support National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2012. MeetMe will encourage its more than 40 million members to register so that they may vote in this year's Presidential Election.
"Many of our members will be first time voters this election year," said Catherine Cook, VP of Brand Strategy for MeetMe, Inc. "We are pleased to be supporting OurTime.org to help reach new voters and engage them in the political process."
On Tuesday, September 25, MeetMe will run a Home Page Takeover, which will include the Our Time Voter Registration widget. In addition, MeetMe will feature an exclusive Our Time video of comedian Steve Carrell on MeetMe and across its social media channels.
A recent survey of 13,000 MeetMe members asked, "Are you currently registered to vote?" Of people 18 to 30, only 62% of them are currently registered to vote compared to nearly 80% of people over 31. For first time voters, only 45% of members surveyed are registered to vote.
"We are grateful that MeetMe is leveraging their platform to embed OurTime.org's voter registration tool and content," said Matthew Segal, President and co-founder, OurTime.org. "The 2012 election may very well come down to the youth vote once again, so it's critical that as many people in our generation as possible express their will."
