Preparing for a CBP Audit: Focused Assessment and Referral Audits
Oct. 16, 2:00 pm ET
Now is the season when CBP notifies importers that they will be the subject of an upcoming Focused Assessment audit or "FA." An FA is a comprehensive audit conducted by CBP and typically involves an intensive six-month audit process of your company's import operations conducted by a CBP audit team. The CBP team can be expected to review internal controls and CBP entries for compliance in regards to value, HTS classification, NAFTA, GSP, reconciliation, anti-dumping and other free trade agreements. Effectively preparing for the FA is critical and has proven to reduce potential penalty liability as well as maintaining your import compliance credibility with CBP.

Use of Statistical Sampling and Application of Offsetting in Prior Disclosures
Nov. 29, 2:00 pm ET
Whether you are preparing for a FA or applying for CBP's ISA program, you may be faced with potential compliance issues involving hundreds or even thousands of import transactions. Did you know that you can use statistical sampling to manage large import transaction universes, calculate lost duties, taxes, and fees or lost revenue - and that this is frequently done by knowledgeable importers for the purposes of submitting a prior disclosure? Did you know that in certain circumstances you could offset overpayments/over-declarations against underpayments/under-declarations in a prior disclosure? Learn how new regulations have influenced the preparation of prior disclosures as CBP experts demystify how to effectively use statistical sampling and apply offsetting in large import transaction universe scenarios.
Speakers:
Office of International Trade, U.S. Customs and Border Protection -
Cynthia Covell, Executive Director, Regulatory Audit; Tom Jesukiewicz, Field Director - Houston, Regulatory Audit; Elizabeth Chiavetta, Acting Audit Policy Director, Regulatory Audit.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. - Lynda L. Westerfield, International Trade Compliance Sr. Staff.
Pisani & Roll LLP - Brett Harris, Partner.
Moderator: Mark Szakonyi, Associate Editor, The Journal of Commerce
