AFPM Urges the Environmental Protection Agency to Consider AAA Warning on Use of E15 Gasoline

WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new survey from the American Automobile Association (AAA) provides yet another confirmation that the Environment Protection Agency's (EPA) hasty approval of E15 threatens consumer engines and vehicles. Instead of simply acting on very limited testing rather than a comprehensive analysis, the Agency rubberstamped the Growth Energy petition and approved E15 for sale into the general marketplace. Possibly then evidence showing that 95 percent of consumers surveyed had not heard of E15 gasoline, thereby raising the likelihood of misuse and engine harm, coupled with the fact that nearly all auto manufacturers have warned that warranties will be voided, will finally resonate with regulators. Perhaps now, EPA will be forced to use real science rather than political science because, it would be difficult to dismiss the AAA who conducted the survey and represents the interests of 53 million consumers. EPA is rushing to impose a new fuel into the marketplace while ignoring studies that demonstrate that E15 damages existing automobiles, small engines like those in chainsaws or lawnmowers, off road engines and gasoline refueling infrastructure. We are confident that legal challenges moving through the judicial process will eventually confirm what we already know - EPA violated the law in approving a partial waiver for E15.
