Santa & His Elves Bring Thousands of Toys to 10,000 Poor Children & Their Families on Skid Row at Fred Jordan Mission

LOS ANGELES, December 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Mission Commemoratesthe Lives of the 26 Innocent Victims in Connecticut

10,000 impoverished inner city children will receive not just one, not just two but three brand new toys at Los Angeles' largest Christmas Toy Party at the Fred Jordan Mission today Saturday, December 22 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse will greet the children and of course Santa Claus will lead more than 10,000 children and moms to the Toy Giveaway tables where each child will receive three to four toys each, and assorted warm clothes. In addition, each mother will receive a Christmas dinner food bag. The Family Christmas Celebration will be held at the Fred Jordan Mission, at 445 Towne Avenue, on the corner of East 5th and Towne, in downtown Los Angeles.

Toys have been collected from toy drives run by companies, schools and churches throughout the Southland - - the nearly 30,000 new toys will be distributed to eager little children, along with Christmas Dinner foods, blankets, clothes, and so much more. Thousands of poor and needy boys and girl's faces will light up with joy and wonders when they see the giant mountain of thousands of brand new toys, and realize they can take home what may well be the first NEW toy they have ever received. To thousands of families who do not have a real home, the Fred Jordan Mission is truly their home this Christmas. Volunteer elves will be cooking warm and fresh cookies so that nutritious milk and cookies will be enjoyed by everyone, not just Santa on this special day!

These disadvantaged little ones and their families will be treated to a variety of entertainment, including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse*, courtesy of The Walt Disney Company, Santa Claus, as well as musicians and carolers who will join the celebration to make this a spectacular day for some of the neediest in our midst. Willie Jordan, Mission's President and widow of the Mission's founder, will share the Christmas Story.

Since Christmas celebrates the birth of the holy Child, the Mission's tree will be decorated with 26 special Teddy bears to celebrate the lives of the 26 innocent victims in Connecticut who will spend their first Christmas in heaven.

Volunteer elves and donations with companies and organizations from all over the southland including: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, The Walt Disney Company, the Teamsters Local 848, Ralph's Grocery, Toys for Tots, Deloitte & Touche, Jesse Medina, 1 Clothing, Burbank Airport, Woodcrest Schools, Anmo Pat Brown High School, Fresh Dairy Direct and the Lunch Master will help Santa play with the children and distribute gifts to them. Mission elves will also be giving fresh warm cookies and milk to every child.
