Constitutional Attorneys Assist Jackson City Schools In Responding to Complaint Regarding Middle School's "Hall of Honor"
JACKSON, Ohio, Jan. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Liberty Institute, on behalf of Jackson City School District, responded to demand letters from the Freedom From Religion Foundation and ACLU regarding the school's longstanding "Hall of Honor" display that contains a portrait of Jesus. The FFRF requested that the school remove the portrait of Jesus, which has been a fixture at the school for more than 65 years without complaint. Copies of the response letters to the FFRF and ACLU are available on Liberty Institute's website at https://www.libertyinstitute.org/document.doc?id=43 and https://www.libertyinstitute.org/document.doc?id=42.

"We want to ensure that Jackson City School District follows the Constitution, which includes not engaging in religious hostility by immediately removing part of the 'Hall of Honor' display that has been in place for at least 65 years without complaint," said Jackson City Schools Superintendent Phil Howard.
This week, the Jackson City Schools retained Liberty Institute as its legal counsel to assist with this matter on a pro bono basis. Over the next few months, Liberty Institute attorneys will conduct an investigation and will make a recommendation to the Jackson City School Board based on its findings on or after March 20.
Hiram Sasser, Director of Litigation for Liberty Institute, added, "It is reasonable and appropriate for the school district to consider the overall context, purpose, and history of the 'Hall of Honor' display and not to take any premature actions, such as removing the portrait or succumbing to legal threats from an organization such as FFRF."
