State of Michigan Hosts Bipartisan Inaugural Celebration in D.C.

Event Highlights Flavors and Comforts of Home

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- You'll feel like you're back in the great state of Michigan at Monday night's inaugural ball hosted by the Michigan State Society and the Michigan Congressional Delegation. Close to 2,000 attendees are expected, and tickets can still be purchased online for the dinner dance featuring local fare and entertainment favorites from the Great Lakes state.

The event will be held at the National Museum of American History, Kenneth E. Behring Center at 14th & Constitution Avenue in NW Washington D.C. from 7:30 pm until Midnight on Monday, January 21st, 2013. (**Media welcome to sign-in at entrance and cover event**)

Local bands including Mel Ball and Colours, and the Simone Vitale Band will provide the night's entertainment. The event is sponsored in part by Chevron, DTE Energy and General Motors, and is chaired by Debbie Dingell, Representative John Dingell (D-Michigan), Kristi Rogers and Representative Mike Rogers (R-Michigan).

"Michigan had a critical role in this year's election as one of the closely watched states. As a state, we come together to celebrate the Inaugural as Americans," says event chair Debbie Dingell.

Honored guests for the night include Michigan's Multi-jurisdictional Mounted Police Drill Team and Color Guard, and the Military Spouses of Michigan, who will be marching in the official Inaugural Parade earlier in the day. College students from various Michigan colleges and universities will serve as volunteers for the gala, and the Henry Ford Community College Band will perform, rounding out a truly homegrown night.

Homemade Michigan favorites including wild duck breasts, cherry barbeque meatballs and Coho Salmon will be featured. Locally grown Michigan apples and black walnuts will top some dishes, and dessert highlights include a Sander's Ice Cream Sundae Station, and Fort Mackinaw Fudge, both favorites of the state. Even the ladies lounges will be adorned with Michigan favorites - Geranium soap and hand cream, made exclusively for the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, have been donated.
