Swedish is working with the Trinity Health Board and the executive team to ensure a smooth transition. Warren, a Trinity Health Board member since July 2011, is the former CEO of Howard University Hospital and former CEO of University of Michigan Hospital.

"Joe has been a visionary leader for Trinity Health and an unrelenting advocate for our mission, and we wish him all the best in his new role," said Sister Mary Mollison, CSA, Chair of the Trinity Health Board of Directors. "We are fortunate to have an exemplary leadership team and a strong, engaged Board to ensure we stay on our strategy - positioning Trinity Health for the future through clinical excellence, community benefit and steadfast financial stewardship. Trinity Health and Catholic Health East remain committed to our consolidation, and we are continuing forward to integrate our organizations and close the consolidation this year."

Swedish has been CEO since December 2004. Under his leadership, Trinity Health revenues increased from $5.7 billion in 2005 to $8.9 billion in 2012, and total assets increased from $7.5 billion to $11.7 billion. The organization's community benefit ministry, which includes care for the poor and community heath activity, increased from $265 million in 2005 to $615 million in 2012.

"Trinity Health is a progressive and dynamic ministry, and it has been my honor to help pursue its mission for eight years," Swedish said. "I thank the entire Trinity Health team for their tireless commitment to healing the body, mind and spirit of people everywhere, and for working together to unify our ministry for a stronger future."
