The CSMFO "Operating Budget Excellence Award Fiscal Year 2012-2013"
LAKEWOOD, Calif., March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Water Replenishment District has received its latest award certificate from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers, (CSMFO) for the "Operating Budget Excellence Award Fiscal Year 2012-2013." This is the second consecutive year WRD has earned this particular award and brings the total number of financial awards to 19.

The mission of the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing budgeting and management policies and practices while promoting them through education, training and leadership. The CSMFO Budget Awards Program is designed to recognize those agencies that have prepared a budget document or communication tool that meets certain standards.

As a part of the District's continuing commitment to fiscal transparency and accountability, in the Fall of 2011, the Board established the WRD Audit and Budget Advisory Committee (ABAC). This Committee was established to allow the Board to receive input directly from its stakeholder community relating to the two most important financial functions of the District: the annual independent audit and the budget process. Members of this Committee consist of WRD stakeholders.
The Water Replenishment District of Southern California is the regional groundwater management agency that protects and preserves the quantity and quality of groundwater for two of the most utilized urban basins in the State of California. The service area is home to over ten percent of California's population residing in 43 cities in southern Los Angeles County. WRD is governed by a publicly elected Board of Directors which includes Willard H. Murray, Jr., Robert Katherman, Lillian Kawasaki, Sergio Calderon, and Albert Robles.
