Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) Creates Membership Category for Active Military and VA Healthcare System Workers

MALVERN, Pa., March 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) announces the creation of a new membership category for Active Military and VA Healthcare System workers. AAWC is proud to honor those who defend the United States (US) through active military service, as well as those who care for US veterans through employment within the VA Healthcare System. AAWC also gratefully acknowledges those who protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the US Nation through service in the US Commissioned Corps (the federal uniformed officers of the US Public Health Service).

Half price professional dues are offered to members of this new AAWC membership category. Specifically, healthcare professionals that work under the umbrella of the US Department of Veteran's Affairs are welcome to select this category. Additionally, this category is open to those in the active military service of the United States (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines). This includes members of the Reserve Components serving on active duty or full-time training duty. For the purpose of further defining this membership, AAWC is including the National Guard, as well as the full time uniformed officers of the US Public Health Service (Commissioned Corps). US Military civilian healthcare workers are also included.

Robert Snyder, AAWC President, states, "The AAWC Board of Director's decision to create this category furthers our mission to be the leader in interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation."

AAWC is already gaining membership in this new segment, which launched last month. "AAWC wants to meet the unique needs of this new section of membership," Tina Thomas, AAWC Executive Director explains, "while also encouraging these new members to participate in our organization in ways that enrich our collaborative atmosphere and complement our multidisciplinary approach to wound healing."

In line with its inter-professional and inclusive nature, AAWC is a membership organization that is open to everyone involved in the care of wounds, including patients. There are numerous ways that those interested in the care of wounds can contribute their time and talents while making a difference at AAWC. If you would like to become involved or simply support the cause, please consider joining as a professional or discover our patient/lay-caregiver advocate network and join for free.

ABOUT AAWC - As the leader in interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation, AAWC is the largest, not-for-profit, multi-specialty organization in the United States dedicated to the research and clinical application of evidence-based wound care.
