President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson of Iceland will speak at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon, April 15

WASHINGTON, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson of Iceland will speak at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon, April 15. He will address challenges facing the Arctic and the competition for the polar region's resources.

Grimsson, who is serving a record fifth term as Iceland's president, will announce a new assembly of Arctic nations to convene for the first time in Reykjavik in October. The group will address critical issues facing the region, including melting sea ice, weather patterns, food security, energy resource extraction and shipping lanes.

Grimsson's long career in politics began after he became the first person from Iceland to earn a Ph.D. in political science. He served for decades in Iceland's legislature as a member of the People's Alliance Party. From 1988 to 1991, he served as Iceland's finance minister.

The Press Club luncheon begins promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session, ending at 2 p.m. Advance reservations should be made through (202) 662-7501 or reservations@press.org. The cost of luncheon admission is $19 for National Press Club members, $30 for their guests, and $37 for the general public. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.
