The Lustgarten Foundation And Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Join Forces For 'Unite To Fight Pancreatic Cancer', A First Of Its Kind Walk Event In Boston

BOSTON, Mass., April 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --The Lustgarten Foundation and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network are proud to announce that they will join forces and efforts for Unite to Fight Pancreatic Cancer, a special walk event scheduled to take place in Boston at DCR's Mother's Rest Park on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

This is a first of its kind event, bringing together the two leading organizations in the fight against pancreatic cancer. By joining forces for the event, the two organizations hope to create more awareness and raise more funds in the fight against this deadly disease. Registration for the Unite to Fight Pancreatic Cancer walk is now open.

"Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States and is estimated to become the second leading cause of death by the year 2020, possibly as early as 2015. Now more than ever, it's critical that the pancreatic cancer community comes together to fight this disease as one," said Julie Fleshman, president and CEO of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. "We are thrilled to partner with The Lustgarten Foundation on Unite to Fight Pancreatic Cancer and look forward to a successful event."

Kerri Kaplan, executive director of The Lustgarten Foundation, said, "We are proud to join with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for this walk event. We both are determined to raise more awareness and funds to fight this deadly disease. Research is the way toward early detection, better treatments, and ultimately, a cure. We hope the Boston community will join us in September in that spirit of hope."

It is estimated that more than 45,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year. Proceeds from the Unite to Fight Pancreatic Cancer walk event will support each organization's respective missions.
