IA Interior Architects Initiates Process to Transition Leadership and Ownership

SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --IA Interior Architects has initiated an orderly process to transition its leadership and ownership over the next few years. David Mourning, CEO, who founded the firm in 1984, has begun selling his ownership interest to IA Senior Management and to an ESOP owned by all IA employees. In addition, he has appointed David Bourke and Tom Powers as Executive Directors, responsible for firm operations and growth strategies. Both will continue as Managing Principals of their respective offices and regions.

David Bourke and Tom Powers will also co-chair a newly created Executive Committee of managing principals that will assist in providing leadership and ensuring the development of IA's goals, strategies, and policies. The committee will include Helen Watts, Managing Principal, Los Angeles; Jeff Miller, Managing Principal, Seattle; Joe McClelland, Chief Financial Officer and Managing Principal; and Mick McCullough, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Principal, San Francisco.

"Ensuring a smooth transition of leadership, maintaining IA's culture, continuing our commitment to growth, and staying true to our roots as a leading, independent firm have been top priorities in planning this process. The principals were asked who they saw as leaders within the organization that were capable of moving the firm forward. Their unanimous recommendation was to ask Tom and David to take on these additional responsibilities," shares David Mourning.

"It is a great honor to be asked to take on this position. I am delighted to have Tom Powers as a partner and guidance from David Mourning and our Executive Committee as we move into this new leadership structure. IA is fortunate to have great clients and some of the most talented professionals in the business. I look forward to teaming with them to create innovative solutions and ensure superlative services as well as the continued growth and development of our platform," said David Bourke.

"I am excited to be asked to join with David Bourke in leading this exciting group of talented professionals. IA's unwavering passion for the workplace, powered by great design and innovative strategies, is the ideal platform for growth. Teaming with over 350 IA employee owners, I am looking forward to being a part of leading this incredible firm into the future," stated Tom Powers.
