Two BB&T Scott & Stringfellow Financial Advisors Named To Elite 'FT400' List

RICHMOND, Va., May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --BB&T Scott & Stringfellow today announced the Financial Times has named two of its financial advisors to the prestigious 2013 Top 400 Financial Advisors (FT400) list.

The BB&T Scott & Stringfellow financial advisors recognized are John A. Gill of the Virginia Beach, Va., office and David L. Houchins of the Charleston, W.Va., office.

"The FT400 is truly an esteemed list, and we are delighted to see both John and David recognized as two of the nation's best financial advisors," said Bryan S. Cram, BB&T Scott & Stringfellow Private Client Group president. "This is testimony to their strong commitment to the client relationship, investment excellence and overall professionalism."

Gill, senior managing director and financial advisor, joined BB&T Scott & Stringfellow in 1985 after graduating from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in economics. Gill has consistently been on the firm's President's Advisory Council, which recognizes its top 10 advisors; is a member of the firm's advisory board; and has been a BB&T Sterling Performer, the company's top recognition for revenue and sales production.

Houchins, a senior managing director and financial advisor who began his investment career in 1988, is the only financial advisor in West Virginia to receive the FT400 honor. He attended Marshall University and is a 1984 graduate of West Virginia State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Houchins joined BB&T Scott & Stringfellow in 2004, where he has also consistently been on the Firm's President's Advisory Council; is a member of the firm's advisory board; and has been a BB&T Sterling Performer.Houchins also is complex manager of BB&T Scott & Stringfellow's offices in Charleston, W.Va., and Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Winchester, Va. He received the Accredited Asset Management Specialist designation through the College for Financial Planning in 1997. He also has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1987 and is a member of the West Virginia Society of CPAs.

The FT400 list is based on data gathered and verified by broker-dealer home offices, and, as identified by Financial Times, reflects each advisor's performance in six primary areas: assets under management, asset growth, years of experience, compliance record, industry certifications, and online accessibility.

To be nominated for the elite FT400 list, advisors must meet the following criteria:

  • Current registration and affiliation with a broker-dealer
  • More than 10 years of experience
  • $250 million or more in assets under management
  • No record of suspension or revocation of license at anytime
  • At least 25 percent of assets in mutual funds, exchange traded funds or separately managed accounts
