St. Baldrick's Foundation Challenges Businesses Big and Small to Join the Fight Against Childhood Cancers

LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The St. Baldrick's Foundation, founded by members of the business community, is proud to recognize its corporate partners that are dedicated to social responsibility and issues a challenge to other businesses to join the fight to Conquer Childhood Cancers. As the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, St. Baldrick's is best known for its signature head-shaving events where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatments in exchange for donations from friends, family and business colleagues. Head-shaving isn't the only way to make a difference; there are many other ways to get involved!

St. Baldrick's is seeking to engage more socially conscious companies in its mission to Conquer Childhood Cancers by participating in the Business4Better (B4B) Conference and Exhibition, taking place May 1-2 in Anaheim, Calif. The conference brings together a community of medium-sized businesses and nonprofits to truly define mutually beneficial partnerships and demonstrate that high-impact community engagement makes for better businesses and communities.

One example of a successful corporate partnership is the St. Baldrick's Foundation's seven-year collaboration with NetApp, which has raised more than $4.7 million for childhood cancer research since 2007. NetApp transformed a single event in 2007 into a worldwide campaign, adopting St. Baldrick's into the fold of the true NetApp culture which includes customers, employees, partners, families, friends and giving back to those in need.

As Bill Hogan, NetApp east area vice president, shared, "The contributions, big and small, exhibited by NetApp employees worldwide characterize NetApp's culture and collective consciousness."

Businesses support St. Baldrick's in many creative ways. From Casual to Conquer, where employees can dress down to raise money for St. Baldrick's, to donating necessary products to events, to collecting donations from employees, there is no limit to the creativity and generosity of the St. Baldrick's Foundation's Corporate Partners.

Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded more than 530 grants totaling more than $103 million to support the most promising research that will find cures and give survivors long and healthy lives.
