Italian-based Chiurazzi Internazionale S.r.l., now the operating subsidiary of Experience Art and Design, owns and operates the Chiurazzi Foundry based in Casoria, Italy, which houses the world renowned Chiurazzi Mould Collection.
The collection began in 1890, when the Italian Ministry of Culture Heritage and Activities granted the company permission to enter the National Archeological Museum in Naples to prepare moulds of the collection of art and artifacts excavated from the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This taking of moulds from original works of art and antiquities was subsequently expanded to other museums throughout Italy and other places where originals were housed, such as the Vatican, the Villa Borghese, the Uffizi Gallery, The Louvre, and the Olympic Museum, to name but a few.
The first of the great assets of the Chiurazzi Foundry is the ability to produce posthumous, first-edition originals from these moulds. These castings, including work by Michelangelo, Bernini, Donatello and others, when limited by international art protocol to editions of nine, command significant prices, often in the millions of dollars.
Works from the Chiurazzi Foundry are owned by such notable collectors as the Queen of England, the Rockefeller Family, the Rothschild Family, and the Vanderbilt Family. Ironically, many of these masterpieces can be seen back in the Vatican Museums, the Louvre as well as the Cambridge Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
This collection of moulds, now numbering more than 1,650, taken directly from original marble and bronze masterpieces, has been described as "the most expansive collection of artistic bronze sculpture moulds ever to be assembled."
The students, artisans and apprentices of the Chiurazzi Foundry and School, meticulously craft smaller reductions, at lower price points, to fulfill the demand of a market that continues to grow as it seems does the price of the pieces themselves.
The company is trading at $4.50, and with 23.5 million shares outstanding, is capitalized at $106 million.
