TULSA, Okla., May 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ONEOK, Inc. (NYSE: OKE) today announced that the ONEOK Foundation will donate up to $1 million to support disaster-relief efforts in Oklahoma following this week's devastating tornado outbreak.
The $1 million contribution consists of $750,000 to organizations providing disaster assistance and $250,000 to the ONE Trust, the company's voluntary charitable organization created to help ONEOK employees in times of personal crisis. Employees, retirees and members of the company's board of directors who contribute to the ONE Trust Fund will have their contributions matched on a two-for-one basis.
"All of us are doing our best to comprehend the tragic events that occurred this week when tornados struck Oklahoma," said John W. Gibson, ONEOK chairman and chief executive officer. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by these powerful storms."
"ONEOK employees live and work in the areas impacted by these storms and have seen the devastation first-hand," said Gibson. "I'd like to commend our local employees for their fast response and for their continuing efforts."
The company will determine in the next week which disaster-assistance organizations it will support based on an ongoing evaluation of needs.
Employees of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, a division of ONEOK, served as first responders after the tornado, securing natural gas lines impacted by the storm and working to restore service to customers in the area. Oklahoma Natural Gas Company provides natural gas service to customers in the Moore and Shawnee, Okla., area and to more than 800,000 customers across the state.
