GRANDVILLE, Mich., June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Plaintiff Belwith Products, LLC, and its divisions Keeler and Hickory Hardware, Announce a legal settlement with Defendants HAMMARY FURNITURE COMPANY ("HAMMARY"), AMERICAN DREW ("AMERICAN DREW") and KINCAID FURNITURE COMPANY ("KINCAID"), all wholly-owned subsidiaries of LA-Z-BOY, Incorporated ("LA-Z-BOY").
Belwith Products, LLC ("Belwith"), a designer and manufacturer of decorative furniture and cabinet and door hardware, located in Grandville, Michigan filed a lawsuit in October 2012 in the Western District of Michigan, Grand Rapids, against Hammary Furniture Company, American Drew and Kincaid Furniture Company, all wholly-owned subsidiaries of LA-Z-BOY, Incorporated, located in Monroe, Michigan. The complaint accused these 3 subsidiaries of LA-Z-BOY of a number of violations of Belwith's intellectual property rights under federal statutes, including infringement upon Belwith's patents and copyrights.
Kincaid Furniture Company, American Drew and Hammary Furniture Company ("Defendants"), purchased, directly or indirectly, from third party sources, certain hardware, some of which were discovered at a later date to infringe one or more Belwith / Keeler patents or copyrights.
Belwith owns and continues to develop substantial intellectual property rights in all of its existing products offerings, as well as in its new products. These rights have been created and protected at great expense to Belwith and its predecessors in interest. Belwith considers its intellectual property to be a significant corporate asset, and Belwith wants to ensure that others respect its intellectual property rights.
