TorkLaw Launches Don't Be A Dummy Campaign: Don't Text and Drive

LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Torkzadeh Law Firm (TorkLaw) announces the launch of its Nationwide campaign, "Don't Be a Dummy: Don't Text and Drive," aimed at helping curb the rising epidemic responsible for thousands of fatal accidents each year.

Texting while driving is now the leading cause of death among teens, surpassing drinking and driving. A recent study by Cohen Children's Medical Center showed that more than 3,000 teens die each year in accidents caused by texting and driving, compared to 2,700 teens who are killed in drunk driving accidents each year. The study also revealed that over 50 percent of students text while driving.

"Our firm has been involved in many cases involving distracted drivers, and we have seen first-hand the devastation that's caused by texting and driving," said Reza Torkzadeh, founder and partner of TorkLaw.

Studies show that a driver is twenty three (23) times more likely to be in an accident if they are texting while driving.1

"The percentage of people texting and driving is alarming. Not a single day goes by that we don't see or hear about a tragic death caused by texting and driving. It's time that we put our efforts in educating our teens and the community about the realities of texting and driving," said Torkzadeh, whose firm is leading the Don't Be a Dummy campaign against texting and driving.

Torkzadeh continues "A driver's eyes are off the road for an average of five seconds while texting and driving. That's enough time to drive the entire length of a football field. It is something unimaginable to do while behind the wheel of a car, yet over 50 percent of drivers in California admit to texting and driving."

Twenty three (23%) percent of all accidents in 2011 resulted from cell phone use. Of those accidents, 18% of all fatal accidents were the result of cell phone distracted drivers.2

Korosh Torkzadeh, partner at TorkLaw suggests that the campaign is supported by a network of concerned citizens who are eager to keep the dangers of texting and driving at the forefront of issues discussed concerning our communities.

"It's important that we keep the dangers of texting and driving a main topic when we discuss other public policy issues in our state. We started our Don't Be A Dummy campaign to do just that. Every year, we represent victims and families of catastrophic accidents caused by distracted cell phone use, and each year, it seems as though it's getting worse," said Korosh Torkzadeh.

In addition to the public service announcement which can be seen on the Don't Be a Dummy campaign website, TorkLaw is giving away free bracelets as a reminder of the pledge to stop texting and driving. The bracelets are available on the TorkLaw website and are embossed with the words "DON'T TEXT & DRIVE."

Reza Torkzadeh concluded, "Ultimately, our goal is to help build safer communities, and we will run this campaign as long as we feel it is being effective."
