Youth Impact at Stanford University

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Riki Ellison, Chairman and Founder of the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance (MDAA), in partnership with the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers, Lockheed Martin and Stanford University, has announced the opening of the Youth Impact Program (YIP) at Stanford University today. YIP is an academic STEM initiative coupled with football skills that runs through the month of July for "at risk" boys in the bay area.

David Shaw, Director and head football coach at Stanford Universitystated: "We are thrilled to once again partner with the Youth Impact Program (YIP), the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers." He concluded his comments with: "It's our third year hosting the program at Stanford, where we strive to positively impact the participants by teaching, mentoring and motivating them to succeed in the classroom and on the playing field."

The Youth Impact Program, now in its third year at Stanford, runs for three weeks fromJuly 8th to 26th, and focuses on English, math and life skills training, incorporating football terminology to better connect with program participants. All clothing, food, transportation, equipment, and academic supplies are provided free of charge, with classrooms led by teachers from the local area. The program will bring in boys between 10 and 14 years old, primarily from the 49ers Academy, Costano Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula.Twelve Stanford football players will be assisting in the program as student-athlete mentors in and out of the classroom, as well as football instructors on the field.

The program has continued its efforts to lead a proactive focus on life skills, mathematics,and English with a complete student-athlete experience opening access to dream big.
