NFL Quarterback Matt Schaub and his GR8 Hope Foundation Present $250,000 donation to Texas Children's Hospital West Campus

This generous gift will be used to expand the emergency center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus

HOUSTON, July 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --NFL quarterback Matt Schaub and his wife Laurie presented a $250,000 donation, as part of a $1 million pledge, raised through their GR8 Hope Foundation, that will be used to expand the emergency center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus, Houston's first community hospital designed, built and equipped exclusively for children.

The David and Mary Wolff Emergency Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is a 14-bed-unit which is staffed with board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The dedicated pediatric emergency center staff is trained to provide immediate care for illnesses and injuries in children less than 18 years of age.

"In football terms, we're only a quarter of the way there," said Matt. "We couldn't have raised this much so far without the support of the entire Houston community. Laurie and I can't wait until next year to make another donation that will give kids more exposure to the great care here at Texas Children's."

The Schaubs presented the generous gift to Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children's Hospital, and Dr. Charles Hankins, chief medical officer at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus.

"Today is another great day at Texas Children's as we accept this wonderful gift from Matt and Laurie Schaub and their GR8 Hope Foundation. We are grateful for all of the work they have done to support the vision and mission of Texas Children's Hospital," said Wallace. "This kind of support allows us to continue to provide great accessibility for all children and their families."

The Schaubs' GR8 Hope Foundation has a mission to provide resources, support, hope and happiness for children with medical needs and their families. The couple recognized the need for a larger space that will allow the emergency center staff to treat more children who require immediate medical attention. Their own three children have been patients at the West Campus Emergency Center.

Located at I-10 and Barker Cypress, Texas Children's Hospital West Campus houses the only 24/7 pediatric emergency room in the Greater West Houston area; four surgical suites and a minor procedure room; 48 acute-care patient; advanced imaging services including MRI and CT scans; a neurophysiology sleep lab; a pathology lab and a pharmacy for inpatient families. The attached outpatient clinic building offers a variety of pediatric subspecialty practices including physical/occupational therapy and speech therapy; diabetes/endocrine; gastroenterology; nutrition; audiology; cardiology; neurology; ophthalmology; otolaryngology; orthopedic surgery; pediatric surgery; pulmonary medicine; urology; oncology and infusion center; allergy and immunology; physical medicine and rehabilitation; adolescent medicine; sports medicine; and pediatric gynecology.
