Praise Compromise That Allows Confirmation of Candidates for Labor, NLRB, CFPB Posts
WASHINGTON, July 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa today congratulated Senate Leader Harry Reid for forging a compromise that allows consideration of nominees for key administration posts.

The Teamsters strongly supported Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Hoffa said he is pleased the Senate moved quickly to approve his nomination and hopes the others follow soon.
"Richard Cordray has already shown he's willing to punish banks that prey on working people, investors and retirees," Hoffa said. "I'm sure he'll continue to help ordinary Americans who've been cheated on their mortgages, their credit cards and their student loans."
President Obama has nominated Nancy Schiffer and Kent Hirozawa to serve on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), while Thomas Perez's nomination as Labor Secretary has been held up for four months.
"I'm very pleased Leader Reid stood up to obstructionists and pushed Republicans to compromise," Hoffa said. "Tom Perez deserves to be confirmed quickly after he was nominated in March. Nancy Schiffer and Kent Hirozawa have years of experience working with labor and will do an excellent job at the NLRB. America's workers deserve to have their rights protected and enforced. It's imperative that the Senate act on all five NLRB nominees within the next two weeks, before the August recess."
On August 27, the NLRB will no longer have a quorum because current members' terms will expire, and the board will effectively close for business.
Schiffer most recently served as associate general counsel at the AFL-CIO for 12 years and previously held a similar position at the United Auto Workers. Hirozawa is currently chief counsel to NLRB Chairman Mark Pearce and previously served as a field attorney for the agency.
