Compliance and ethics staff compensation survey reveals tendency toward higher salary for Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)

Cross-Industry 2013 Compliance and Ethics Staff Salary Survey available online

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2013 Compliance Staff Salary Survey data, just released by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), offers a comprehensive look into the compliance and ethics department staff annual salaries. With this data, businesses and individuals may now compare their salary with peers.

"The data in the survey demonstrates the maturity of the compliance profession. We are seeing that salaries are related, as they should be, to organizational and program size, as well as the level of the individual compliance professional," said SCCE Chief Executive Officer Roy Snell.

According to the data, compliance professionals holding the Certified in Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification tended to earn significantly higher average compensation compared to those with other certifications or no certification.

Compensation for compliance professionals with the title of 'Director' or 'Manager' and who were CCEP certified was about 22 percent higher than their peers with no certification; compensation for compliance professionals with the title of 'Assistant' or 'Specialist' and CCEP certification was 11 percent higher than their peers without certification. When compared with peers having another kind of certification, compensation for CCEP certified 'Directors' was 29 percent higher, while CCEP-certified 'Managers' was 10 percent higher and CCEP-certified 'Assistants/Specialists' was 13 percent higher.

"The numbers show that employers value compliance professionals with the demonstrable level of expertise that comes from earning the Certified in Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) designation," said Snell.

About the survey
The data is aggregated to help individuals and organizations compare their own data to the results of similar operations; these groupings include, but not limited to: title/level, compliance responsibilities, number of direct reports, annual compliance budget, advance degrees, and certifications held.

The survey reveals that typically, cross-industry compliance and ethics department staff tenure is four years; 25 percent of respondents noted six to 10-year tenure, while 14 percent indicate three-year tenure. More than one-third of respondents work at publicly traded companies, while 22 percent of respondents work in privately held and 22 percent work at non-profit organizations.

Over 50 percent of responding Vice Presidents and Directors had JD or MBA degrees.

The compensation data was collected during the second quarter of 2013 from 679 compliance professionals.
