More Women To Receive Free Breast Cancer Screenings Thanks To The GW Medical Faculty Associates' Women's Health Board

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates congratulates Blair Watters for her leadership of a breast care program fundraising drive which brought in more than $350,000.00. The chief beneficiary of the drive is the MFA's mobile mammography unit known as The Mammovan. It travels to community sites, offering one-stop screening to all women regardless of their ability to pay.

"Thanks to Blair's tireless efforts, 2,300 Washington-area women will have access to life-saving screenings this year," said Rachel Brem, MD, Director of The MFA's Breast Imaging Center.

This is Mrs. Watters second year as chair of The GW Medical Faculty Associates Women's Health Board. Joining in making this a success were board members Jennifer Platt of the International Council of Shopping Centers; Sara Bovim of Whirlpool Corporation; Jacqui Henry of The Henry Foundation; Tiffany Moore of Moore Strategies; Courtney Gelduldig of Standard and Poors; Kimberly Woodard of The WPG Group and Kathryn McGriff of The GW Medical Faculty Associates.

This year's capstone fundraising event for the breast cancer program was a luncheon held Wednesday, October 9, at the Embassy of Italy for nearly 350 guests and supporters. The gala featured speeches by breast cancer survivor Senator Heidi Heitkamp, (D) North Dakota and Journalist Cokie Roberts

"Our great sponsors, including McKesson Corporation, Safeway, BB&T, and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, have helped guarantee that we have had a strong, successful year," Mrs. Watters said. "With their support and the support of many others, critical services that will lead to early detection will be a reality for thousands of women." Additional sponsors include, McGraw Hill Financial, Walmart, Whirlpool, Intuit, International Council of Shopping Centers, GW Hospital, Epstein Becker & Green, Madison Group, United Healthcare, Wilson Elser, Personal Care Products Council, American Resort Development Association, and Gleason Flynn Emig & Fogelman.

"We owe Blair a debt of gratitude. The Mammovan's very operation would be in doubt without the cash infusion she's helped deliver over the past two years," offered MFA CEO Stephen Badger. "Blair's work not only shored up The Mammovan's finances, it's elevated the program's marquee."

Mrs. Watters is a partner at the Madison Group, a bipartisan lobbying and consulting firm specializing in tax, telecommunication, trade, technology and transportation issues.
