The Nation's Report Card Now Online

WASHINGTON, October 25, 2013- The date of the release of The Nation's Report Card: 2013 Mathematics and Reading, Grades 4 and 8 has changed due to a scheduling conflict. We apologize for the inconvenience this date change causes. The webinar event is now scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 10 a.m. EST.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) will use a new online format to release results of The Nation's Report Card: 2013 Mathematics and Reading, Grades 4 and 8. The report, due out on November 7, details what fourth- and eighth-grade students know and can do in mathematics and reading, and compares the latest findings with results from 2011 and earlier.

For the first time, the report card findings-which used to be presented mostly through a printed report-will be available online with search features that make the data easier to explore. Reporters, policymakers, educators, researchers and members of the public will now be able to see, for example, a side-by-side view of mathematics and reading results, as well as video tutorials explaining how the site can be used.

The report card will compare findings by grade level, race and ethnicity, gender, income level and additional contextual factors, such as English language learner status.

GAIN EARLY ACCESS TO RESULTS: Approved media representatives can gain early access to embargoed materials on November 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. EST. Access must be requested. Please contact Shannon Tucker at (571) 366-8984 or stucker@reingold.com.

PARTICIPATE IN THE PRE-EVENT CALL: Media representatives are encouraged to discuss the embargoed data and information with experts on November 6, 2013 (time is TBD), as well as learn about the new online format. Access must be requested. Contact Shannon Tucker at (571) 366-8984 or stucker@reingold.com.

The Nation's Report Card is the largest nationally representative, continuing evaluation of the condition of education in the United States and has served as a national yardstick of student achievement since 1969. Through the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), The Nation's Report Card informs the public about what America's students know and can do in various subject areas and compares achievement data among states and various student demographic groups.

The National Assessment Governing Board is an independent, bipartisan board whose members include governors, state legislators, local and state school officials, educators, business representatives, and members of the general public. Congress created the 26-member Governing Board in 1988 to set policy for NAEP.
