The new policy, once implemented, will allow customers to begin using these devices in "airplane mode" during taxi, takeoff and landing on domestic flights unless instructed otherwise by a crewmember.

"US Airways is pleased that the FAA has validated the recommendations of industry experts that will ultimately allow customers to access their devices during all phases of flight," said Hector Adler, US Airways' vice president, InFlight Services."The FAA recommendations will allow us to transform the customer experience, while keeping safety our first priority."

Once implemented by the FAA, US Airways expects to begin allowing customers to use certain personal electronic devices for gate-to-gate usage excluding the ability to make phone calls.In-flight Wi-Fi is available for customers once above 10,000 feet. US Airways recently completed installation of Gogo In-flight Wi-Fi on 90 percent of its domestic fleet including 328 US Airways and US Airways Express aircraft.

The expansion of in-flight Wi-Fi is among US Airways' latest initiatives to elevate the on-board experience for its customers. In January 2012, US Airways announced the completion of first class installation on 110 US Airways Express regional jets including the Embraer 175 and 170 and Canadair Regional Jet 700 and 900 fleets.

It is important to note that changes concerning the use of personal electronic devices will not take effect until the FAA finalizes the recommendations.US Airways looks forward to working with the FAA on a speedy implementation for our customers.
