FIRJAN concludes participation at OTC Brasil with presentation of integrated solutions for the offshore market

RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) ended this Thursday, October 31st, in Rio de Janeiro. It is the Brazilian edition of the world's largest technology event in the oil and gas industry. The fair brought together more than 800 exhibitors, 1,900 conference attendees and15,000 visitors in search of business and opportunities.

Sistema FIRJAN presented integrated solutions in the areas of welding, environment, automation and simulation that ensure competitive advantages to the oil and gas industries. Through an interactive desk, it was possible to check cases of joining solutions and inspection, risk mitigation and environmental management, mathematical modeling, as well as local and remote virtual simulation systems applied to the offshore market.

Executives from major companies such as Petrobras, NOV, PR Energia and Keppel Fels, stopped by the FIRJAN stand to find out details of solutions offered by SENAI Technology Centers for Welding, Environmental, Automation and Simulation. Units have specific portfolios, but also offer integrated solutions that save time and cost, allowing for a broader vision and better project management, in addition to maximization of knowledge and results of solutions applied.

FIRJAN's Director of Market Relations, Alexandre dos Reis, underscored the importance of participation in events such as OTC: "Once again it was possible to highlight integrated solutions in technological services for a highly specialized audience. It is an important step in consolidating the name of Sistema FIRJAN at events that attract a big international public, underscoring the differentials of Brazil." Reis also emphasized his impressions regarding the oil and gas market in coming years: "Talking to executives in this sector, you can see that prospects and expectations are looking very good. With investments projected for the next 10 years, no one has any doubt that Brazil is an attractive market, and that it is positioning itself as a preferred destination for major companies."

Sistema Firjan's Manager of Strategy for the Oil and Gas Market, Glicia Carnevale, said that Brazil is going through a very favorable period as far as investment prospects are concerned in the oil and gas industry in the next decade. "This is due to the results of the Libra auction, which brought a high signing bonus to be paid by the winning consortium (R$ 15 billion). In addition, for the first time we're seeing a partnership between Petrobras and Chinese state firms, such as CNPC and CNOOC, a French company, Total, and Anglo-Dutch Shell," said Glicia.

This new business configuration brings with it challenges as well as opportunities. In this light, fairs such as OTC become the ideal occasion for companies to get to know better key players in the oil and gas sector. "Sistema FIRJAN is ready to be a partner in this process, offering solutions for the international market as well as for companies with installations in Brazil."

Lectures and debates

In addition to cases presented at the stand, Sistema FIRJAN also participated in lectures and panels provided for visitors. Sistema FIRJAN Vice President, Raul Sanson, took part in a panel on "Implementation of offshore mega-projects in Brazil: Challenges and Opportunities," held on the last day of the event.

During the debate, Sanson emphasized the importance of strengthening national industry through greater participation in the purchasing process of major projects. "It's vital to understand that the less participation there is in basic design in the productive chain, the less chance there will be of selling or supplying equipment and services for local industry. Long term planning is essential for the success of any project."

Paulo Furio, manager of SENAI Environmental Technology Center, served as mediator on the panel that presented models of management and action plans that seek to prevent or reduce environmental impacts through safe procedures and mitigation of possible oil spills. Executives from the U.S., Europe and Latin America showed that they were all on the same page during the presentation of models already in use by several firms in the sector. "You could see that, increasingly, companies are realizing that issues relating to safety and the environment are not in the "expense" column, because they think that with the application of these new models, it will be possible to reduce risks and time spent on processes, resulting in production that is more profitable in the long term. I believe we've reached a new paradigm in terms of safety management and environmental risk reduction."
