Timothy F. Geithner to Join Warburg Pincus as President and Managing Director

NEW YORK, November 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Warburg Pincus, a leading global private equity firm focused on growth investing, today announced the appointment of Timothy F. Geithner as President and Managing Director. Mr. Geithner also will be a member of the firm's Executive Management Group.

In his role, Mr. Geithner will work closely with Warburg Pincus' Co-Chief Executive Officers, Charles R. Kaye and Joseph P. Landy, on overall firm strategy and management, investing and portfolio management, organizational and funding structure, and investor relations.

Mr. Geithner joins Warburg Pincus following his service as the 75th secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, between 2003 and 2009. In those capacities, Mr. Geithner played a central role in designing the U.S. response to the financial crisis of 2008-2009, while also tackling a broad set of international economic challenges.

Mr. Kaye said, "We are excited to welcome Tim to Warburg Pincus. He brings a history of strong leadership, a deep understanding of economies and markets, and a truly global perspective. These attributes will be of tremendous value to our firm in this increasingly interconnected world."

Mr. Landy stated, "Warburg Pincus is a firm that strives to think ahead. As private equity evolves and as our investing practices and funding models continue to develop, Tim's record of leadership through economic and market complexity will be of critical importance as we continue to build for the future."

Mr. Geithner said, "Warburg Pincus has an excellent record of performance, a very compelling global strategy and an ethical reputation of the highest regard. I look forward to working with my new colleagues and to contributing to the firm's continued growth and success."

Mr. Geithner will assume his responsibilities with the firm full time on March 1, 2014.

Additional Background on Timothy F. Geithner

Since leaving the Treasury Department in January after four years as secretary, Mr. Geithner has been a distinguished fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, he has been conducting a series of seminars on financial crises at universities across the country.

Beyond his leadership roles as Secretary of the Treasury and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Mr. Geithner has held several prominent policy positions in his career. He first joined the Department of Treasury in 1988 and worked in a variety of positions in three administrations. From 1999 to 2001, Geithner served as Undersecretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, under Secretaries Robert E. Rubin and Lawrence H. Summers. Mr. Geithner was Director of the Policy Development and Review Department at the International Monetary Fund from 2001 until 2003. Previously, he worked for Kissinger Associates, Inc.
