ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While IT employment grew for the 26th consecutive month, the rate of growth has continued to decelerate.
The number of IT jobs grew 0.04 percent sequentially last month to 4,511,100, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 5.53% since October 2012 adding 236,200 IT workers.
Engineering jobs grew once again in October, up 0.12 percent sequentially last month to 2,472,200. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 1.50% since October 2012 adding 36,600 engineering workers.
"While demand for IT professionals and engineers remains relatively robust, the rate of employment growth for both groups has continued to slow" stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "The deceleration is no doubt attributable at least in part to the government shutdown for more than half of the month of October which precipitated an atmosphere of uncertainty within the business community," added Roberts.
