Rentrak Announces Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of Dec. 15, 2013

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ: RENT), the global leader in box office measurement, today announced the worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of Dec. 15, 2013 as compiled by the company's Box Office Essentials' and International Box Office Essentials' theatrical measurement services.

As the trusted standard for all studio box office reporting, Rentrak provides intelligence into overnight theatre-level reporting across the global theatrical market. Coupled with the official reported data, studios are able to analyze admissions and gross results in over 50 territories using Rentrak's suite of products.

Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, "Warner Bros. had a very happy 'Hobbit' weekend as 'The Desolation of Smaug' dominated the international box office, ranking #1 everywhere and grossing a phenomenal $131.2 million in 49 markets and a whopping $205 million worldwide in 50 markets. Disney's 'Frozen' continues to chill the worldwide competition as the only kid-friendly offering and in 26 territories brings its global total to nearly $266 million, while Lionsgate's 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' ignites a whopping 84 territories with a global cumulative nearing $730 million."
