WARREN, Mich., Dec. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --No one needs a good night's sleep more than Chicago's first responders. To help ensure that the courageous firefighters throughout Chicagoland receive the essential rest they need, Art Van Furniture donated 100 mattresses to several of the city's fire stations this morning, just in time for Christmas.

The Midwest's No. 1 furniture and mattress retailer presented 16 extra-long twin mattresses to Chicago Firehouse Engine 106, Truck 13 and Ambulance 48 before delivering the remaining mattresses to firehouses across the city. Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago and Chicago Ward 33 Alderman Deb Mell were on hand to accept the donation.
"Firefighters serve and protect without hesitation, putting their lives at risk every day," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. "These mattresses will provide them with comfort and support to achieve the best sleep possible so that they are rested and ready to serve their communities day or night."
