A True Santa Resides at Manor Oaks Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --All year round, Maintenance Director Michael Homer shops for the perfect gift for each Manor Oaks' resident. "I'm with them every day and know what they like," states Homer. Whether it's a new shirt or picture frame for a grandchild's photograph, he makes sure each resident has a special holiday gift. Peggy Booth, Administrator of Manor Oaks, jokes, "All year long Mike is making his list and checking it twice, except nobody is naughty and everyone is nice."

Activity Director Julie Riggs and Michael Homer (aka Mrs. Clause and Santa) have created this annual tradition of passing out gifts to all of the residents. "Every year the residents anticipate what gift Mike will choose for them. Some even leave him hints," states Ms. Riggs.

The staff always goes above and beyond to make it a special time. On Christmas morning the residents receive their gift from Santa and take a photo with him. For residents who are unable to attend, Santa and his helpers bring the gifts and festivities to their room.Ninety-year-old resident James Bass was one of those people. "I wasn't feeling so good that day and seeing Santa made me feel better; a lot better than before."

Both the staff and residents at Manor Oaks don't need a holiday to have a good time and enjoy each other's company. They make the most out of every day, all year long. Becoming emotional, Julie states, "I love coming to work because the residents bring me such joy." Michael Homer adds, "They're like my extended family."

Michael Homer is one of the many long-term employees working for the Marrinson Group. Manor Oaks Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is part of the Marrinson Senior Care Residences. With over four decades of service, the Marrinson Group offers a family of distinguished residential, assisted care, and skilled rehabilitation facilities, which are committed to meet the needs of its residents and their families.
