Rentrak Announces Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of Jan. 12, 2014

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of Jan. 12, 2014 as compiled by the company's Box Office Essentials' and International Box Office Essentials' theatrical measurement services.

As the trusted standard for all studio box office reporting, Rentrak provides intelligence into overnight theatre-level reporting across the global theatrical market. Coupled with the official reported data, studios are able to analyze admissions and gross results in over 50 territories using Rentrak's suite of products.

Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, "Another hot worldwide box office weekend with both Disney's animated "Frozen" and Warner Bros.' epic sequel "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continuing their incredible successes. To date, "Frozen" has crossed the $700 million mark globally with $394.6 million generated in the international arena and is now the 4th highest grossing non-sequel animated film of all time. "The Hobbit" has surpassed $800 million in worldwide ticket sales and grossed an estimated $22.2 million this weekend for an impressive international cume of $566 million."
