In South America, Brazil is the leading vehicle producer in the region. In 2012, Brazil produced a total of 3.3 million vehicles and ranked as the seventh largest vehicle producer in the world, behind China, USA, Japan, Germany, South Korea and India. Production has so far been primarily driven by strong domestic demand. However, as neighbouring countries in the region, especially Mercosur member nations continue to develop, exports of vehicles and automotive parts will increasingly become an important driver for growth for the Brazilian automotive industry. The plethora of new investment commitments by international carmakers in Brazil, partially driven by the government's stimulus programme, also indicates the importance investors are placing on both the domestic market and regional markets. However, the Brazilian government will have to carefully balance protectionism with liberalism to enable the automotive industry to grow successfully and sustainably.

This report examines the macroeconomic situation in Brazil, including planned investment in infrastructure development projects and national automotive policy & plans. The report provides an overview of automotive industry & supply chain, as well as looking at the vehicle component industry as a whole. It lists investments made by vehicle component suppliers, and relevant joint-ventures and mergers and acquisitions. In terms of supplier localisation, the report takes a look at the involvement of automakers in supplier development, localisation trends and the development automotive clusters. Finally the report looks at existing R&D capabilities in Brazil, as well as new investments taking place there and provides a conclusion on the opportunities and challenges that the country faces.

The report includes a series of 58 supplier profiles from suppliers either based in Brazil, or the localised operations of global tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers.
