Surf's Up: Hello Betty Fish House Opens In Oceanside, CA

SAN DIEGO, March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Sage Restaurant Group (SRG), the Denver-based independent restaurant group dedicated to creating experiences where food, drink, and inspired design meet and mix, opens its first San Diego-based concept, Hello Betty Fish House, located in the heart Oceanside, California's beach community. The highly anticipated restaurant brings a vibrant new dine and drink option to one of San Diego's most up-and-coming destinations.

Fish Tacos

Hello Betty Fish House is a unique concept created by Peter Karpinski, co-Founder & COO of the SRG. Karpinski immersed himself in the city's beach culture while on the coast of San Diego. His travels ultimately served as inspiration for this latest venture.

"As an avid fly-fisherman, opening up a concept that caters to and celebrates this seaside community and dining platform has always beena passion project for me," said Karpinski. "This restaurant showcases those incredible flavors and experiences of the Baja region in a casual, come-as-you-are atmosphere. We are grateful to the local residents and business community for greeting us with open arms."

The Menu
While enjoying the restaurant's laid-back ambiance and picturesque scenery, guests of Hello Betty Fish House can whet their appetite on a menu checkered with Baja-inspired Southern California beachside favorites. The menu features exceptionally prepared seafood, a coastal San Diego staple, with highlights including the Ahi Tuna Flautas, Oyster Tortas, and West Coast Seafood Boil with shrimp, clams, mussels, corn, potatoes, Andouille, chile, garlic beer broth, and toast.

While seafood is a prominent part of the menu, guests have an array of other options to choose from. Offerings include Smoked Pork Belly Carnitas, Avocado Toast, and the Loco Moco Burger with spam, brown gravy, fried egg, and huli huli onions.

The Drinks
An expansive beverage program has been designed to complement the fresh, locally sourced menu. Whether enjoying a drink from the 60-seat bar, on the patio, or in the dining room, guests can select from a variety of specialty cocktails reminiscent of the town's coastal allure. Sips include Maverick's Squeeze with lemongrass infused AmericanHarvest vodka, orange, lemon, and lime; and the Beach Break Therapy with Hangar 1 kaffir lime vodka, coconut rum, pineapple, lime, and Peychaud's bitters. The margarita, a popular beachside favorite, also appears on the cocktail menu in multiple iterations including the Offshore Spinner with Milagro Reposado, St. Germain, grapefruit, and lime. A solid list of craft beers - with a strong local emphasis - are available by the bottle, can, or on draft, as well as a dozen wines by the glass.

The Space
Hello Betty Fish House pays a visual homage to a town deeply rooted in history - from thrill-seeking surfers to the rugged fishermen that have worked nearby for decades. Boasting a breezy, light interior with unexpected twists of coastal lore from nautical ropes to weathered beach cottage shutters, Hello Betty Fish House is poised to provide a welcoming respite for both locals and visitors alike.

Designer Andrew Alford and his company, Dirty Lines, infused the space with elements that serve as a nod to Oceanside's rich nautical history, from a custom burnt-wood mural by local artist Micaiah Hardison, to a growing collection of snapshots featuring local fishermen, surfing icons, and surf enthusiasts. Other design highlights include a vintage gold and white dune buggy, aptly named "Coco" after surfing phenom, Coco Ho, and a cascading braided rope backdrop that injects a playful tone into the eatery. A retractable garage door feature adds an industrial element to the restaurant while providing guests with unobstructed ocean views. Up top, a spacious second floor deck offers an unparalleled panorama of the pristine coastline.

Hello Betty Fish House is located at 211 Mission Avenue. The restaurant is open daily for lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and for dinner from 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
